2 arrested for bringing ecstasy and marijuana across border

LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB)- Lewiston Police responded to the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge Friday night to assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Mauleek Jones, 27, and Hassan Lester, 24, both from Buffalo, were attempting to pass through U.S. Customs when Agents located MDMA (Ecstasy) and Marijuana in their 2003 Dodge Caravan during a secondary search.

Both were arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Further forensic analysis of the Ecstasy may up the charges to felony level.

Lewiston PD also report that Lester attempted to evade arrest for an active warrant out of Buffalo PD by providing Customs Agents with a false name and date of birth. He was subsequently charged by LPD for false personation to a law enforcement officer, a class B misdemeanor.

The individuals were arraigned in the Town of Lewiston Court and remanded to the Niagara County Jail on $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.
