BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – For 25 years the lot at 128 Genesee Street in Buffalo has been empty and vacant, now it’s home to a gourmet hotdog restaurant.
“It’s not your father’s hotdog as they say,” said Rocco Termini, President of Signature Development. “You always hear about hot dog stands, but this is not a stand, it’s a restaurant which has a full bar.”
The eatery, called ‘Dog e Style’, took one of the nation’s favorite foods and spiced it up.
“We have a Saigon style dog. We have the Chicago dog. We have a seafood dog that we are making; we also have a foie gras dog as well,” said Tom Cowan, who is the owner/operator of Dog e Style.
Termini hopes the restaurant grabs the attention of people of all ages. He added that he even wants to see if it rivals the chicken wing. “This is what we need downtown. We need regional attractions. We don’t need the same old, same old. You need to reinvent downtown and this is part of the reinvention of downtown.”
The building is designed like a shipping container. Termini originally wanted to reuse the real thing, but the owner said with Buffalo’s climate it wasn’t possible.
“It’s got all the same qualities of the container, the same look, but it’s done a little differently so we can insulate it so you can be able to stand it in here in the wintertime.”
Dog e Style will have a special opening at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15.
