Buffalo State unveils new $25.7 million gymnasium

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo State cut the ribbon on a two year, $25.7 million renovation of its Houston Gymnasium Friday.

The makeover includes an updated fitness center, a larger swimming pool and locker rooms for each school sport instead of just “men’s” and “women’s”. The swimming pool was deepened and refurbished, the training room was expanded and outdated mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were replaced. School leaders say the new facility will serve more students and help recruit prospective students.

The 54 year old building’s renovation began in the fall of 2012 and construction crews aren’t finished yet. They’ll be working on other buildings over the next three years as part of $350 million in new construction on the campus.
