DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) – Sled hockey teams faced off on the newly accessible rinks at the Depew Ice Pavilion on Saturday.
The rinks allow players to stay on their sleds and skate off the ice into the bench area. The area has to be level with the ice and clear Plexiglas replaces the white boards.
The Depew Ice Pavilion recently made the changes for its sled hockey teams.
Lancaster-native, Sabres sled hockey team member and paralympian Adam Page was at the tournament. He said several members of the U.S. and Canadian National teams played.
“Hopefully disabled people that are out in the community (can) come out and see the sport and maybe join” said Page, a two-time paralympic gold medalist.
The Depew Ice Pavilion is one of the few facilities in the northeast that accommodate sled hockey.
