Man admits to crimes at Rent-A-Center stores

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Buffalo man admitted Monday to a robbery and an attempted robbery at two separate Rent-A-Center stores. Cordero Cephus, 26, faces up to 40 years in state prison when he is sentenced in January.

Cephus admits to holding a Rent-A-Center store manager at gunpoint in August 2012. The manager of the City of Tonawanda store struggled with him, eventually fighting him off, but suffered head lacerations and a shoulder injury. DNA from a hat and gloves links Cephus to the robbery.

Cephus also admitted to robbing $917 at gunpoint from a Buffalo Rent-A-Center on May 23rd, 2013. A customer obtained Cephus’ license plate number as he fled the scene. Police were able to locate the car and recover the gun used during the robbery inside his apartment. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
