US gives county money to fight lead hazards

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – There is more money to get the lead out of homes across Erie County. The federal government is sending $3 million to the county to identify and eliminate lead hazards in 180 homes in our area.

Many older homes still have lead paint, which can cause learning disabilities or behavioral problems in preschool age children.

Congressman Brian Higgins said, “Buffalo has an old housing stock and still the existence of lead paint, so raising awareness and going in there and abating the problem will put these federal funds to good use.”
