BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The grand opening of HARBORcenter in Buffalo kicks off Thursday. Whether you’re a hockey lover or just a fan of Buffalo’s growing economy, there’s a little something for everybody. Events will take place over the next four days at the HARBORcenter.
Thursday, a one-of-a-kind Tim Horton’s Cafe and Bakeshop, honoring the life and career of Buffalo Sabre Tim Horton, opens at 6 a.m. The official ribbon cutting is at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. That’s when fans will get their first look at the new Tim Horton statue on the corner of Washington and Scott Streets.
The rest of the weekend is hockey central. Starting Saturday morning, some of the best 16U and 18U teams in the country are traveling to Buffalo for the opening weekend. The championship is on Sunday.
Canisius College plays Big 10 power Ohio State for hockey games at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Sunday.
People living and working nearby are excited for Thursday.
Gail Cintron lives in the area. She said, “I am going to be happy when it’s over, because you are going to have a lot of people coming down here. This is a pretty place, you have nice sunsets and you have a lot of things in here.”
Irene Bernhard words downtown. She said, “Oh, I cant wait to go to Tim Horton’s and see how it is and everything else that’s going to be in there.”
Hockey heaven is expected to be packed with people all weekend.
