Man allegedly bites off part of groundskeeper’s face

After biting off part of another person's face, Evans police brought John Pawlowski, 31, to ECMC for mental evaluation.

EVANS, N.Y. (WIVB) – An Evans man is in Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) for mental evaluation after he allegedly tore off part of a local groundskeeper’s ear and bit off a portion of his face.

Police detained John Pawlowski, 31, while he struggled with two bystanders who separated him from the groundskeeper. When Pawlowski continued resisting arrest, police said they used a taser on him.

While Pawlowski was being evaluated, police said they issued a warrant for his arrest. He is charged with assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree and three counts of harassment.

Police in Evans said this isn’t Pawlowski’s first run-in with their department — he plead guilty to two counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm for a car chase with officers in 2007 which led to the seizure of a loaded firearm and handmade grenade. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
