Sabres rally, top Red Wings in shootout

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Buffalo Sabres rallied late, then showed off some skill in the shootout to top Detroit Sunday night 3-2.

After a scoreless opening period, Brian Flynn gave Buffalo the lead on his first goal of the year, a rebound off a wrap-around attempt from Zemgus Girgensons. Detroit quickly pulled even, on a Thomas Tatar score.

In the third, Pavel Datsyuk gave the Red Wings their first lead of the night, before Chris Stewart’s first of the year forced overtime, and eventually a shootout.

Tyler Ennis and Gustav Nyqvist scored, before Girgensons gave Buffalo the advantage as the third shooter. Michal Neuvirth stepped up and stopped Henrik Zetterberg to preserve the win – Buffalo’s first on home ice this season.
