Firefighters put out flames at computer repair shop

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo firefighters were called out early Monday morning to put out a fire at a computer repair shop on Genesee Street.

Division Chief John Mogavero told News 4 the fire broke out around 1 a.m. behind the business, and quickly spread to the second story where it appears there is an apartment. No one was inside at the time of the fire.

Chief Mogavero said the business was heavily fortified, with bars on the windows, and that prevented firefighters from getting access to the flames quickly. He said once they did get inside, they were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Chief Mogavero said there was an extension cord between the computer repair shop and another building, and investigators will look into if that played a cause of the fire.

The damage estimate is $40,000 for the building, and $20,000 to the contents. There were no injuries reported. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
