ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) – Albion police responded to lingering threat from World War II Tuesday; they called in a bomb squad to address it.
Police were called to a home in Albion after an elderly woman found what appeared to be a live World War II era hand grenade in the basement of her home.
Police called in the Monore County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad, which determined it was a live grenade. The bomb squad placed the grenade in a secure container and removed it from the basement.
Police believe the woman’s brother or brother-in-law stored the grenade there after their service in World War II.
The grenade will be detonated at a later date.
