Bennett, South Park venture into uncharted territory

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – For the first time this week, a Buffalo city school will hit the field at Ralph Wilson Stadium to compete for a sectional championship – and it’s not just one school, but two.

Bennett and South Park both reached the sectional finals with wins last weekend. In a couple days, both will get their first chance to suit up at The Ralph.

“We’ve been preaching a business as usual type of mentality for our kids,” said Bennett head coach Steve McDuffie. “This is what we’re going to stick to all week. Of course they’re excited to play, but our purpose and our goal is to try and make it as far as we possibly can.”

The Tigers take on Cheektowaga Friday at 4pm for the Class B sectional title. South Park will square off against perennial power Sweet Home for the Class A crown Thursday at 8pm.

“I would imagine most people have Sweet Home favored, but we’re not really focusing on that as much as just trying to play a solid football game, limit mistakes, and play fast and physical,” said head coach Tim Delaney. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
