Obama official to tour Jamestown engine plant

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) – An official in Obama’s administration will tour Cummins’ Jamestown engine plant Thursday.

The plant is a showcase project for the Department of Energy’s Better Building Challenge. Maria Vargas, director of the Better Buildings Challenge, will reveal changes from the plant’s “deep energy retrofit” which features a two megawatt solar installation on the roof.

Cummins’ project is one which showcases the DOE’s goal of cutting energy use in commercial and industrial business buildings by 25 percent within 10 years.

The energy upgrades are expected to save Cummins millions of dollars in energy costs.
