Public meeting to discuss controversial cultural center

WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) — Tonight there will be a public meeting to discuss controversial plans to turn Suzanne’s Fine Dining into an Islamic Cultural Center on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Wheatfield.

Town Supervisor Robert Cliffe said he received hate filled messages about the proposal.

“I’ve had two myself that I would consider hate calls and I know that the town attorney has taken a couple during the day that could be considered hate calls and I can sort of understand it especially if you’ve had a family member that’s been wrapped up in some of what’s going on but somewhere we have to open up a dialogue,” said Cliffe.

The buildings new owner, Dr. Mohammed Agwa, told News 4 there is a public meeting Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the former restaurant on 2843 Niagara Falls Boulevard near Ward Road. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
