Dog control officer assisted in DWI arrest

MACHIAS, N.Y. (WIVB) — When a dog control officer from the Town of Machias saw an intoxicated driver get behind the wheel of a running vehicle, he took action.

New York State Troopers in Batavia said the dog control officer was on an unrelated call in the area when he saw a stopped, but running vehicle with a clearly intoxicated driver. Troopers said they responded to a call from the dog control officer, and when they arrived on the scene, he had detained the intoxicated driver.

An investigation turned up an open bottle of vodka in the vehicle, and troopers arrested Chad Baker, 34, for DWI.

Baker, a Freedom, New York resident, was issued appearance tickets scheduled in Town of Machias Court at a later date to face the charge. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
