NEW YORK, N.Y. (WIVB) – An elite group from downstate is on their way to help us out here in the Queen City. Governor Andrew Cuomo has deployed more than two dozen firefighters from New York City.
The specially-trained FDNY has plenty of experience, including Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy. They will focus on digging out homes, clearing roofs and reaching those still trapped.
FDNY Incident Commander Jim Kane said, “Is it intimidating absolutely. Seven feet of snow is above our heads.”
“We’ll take the burden off of them so they can do their day to day operations,” said Kane.
The FDNY will also help emergency crews coordinate their resources.
