WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A family in West Seneca’s Lexington Green neighborhood say they were ripped off by a contractor.
Dan Matthews told News 4 that he was down south when last week’s Lake Effect storm hit his neighborhood. He said a local contractor approached his wife about removing snow from their roof.
After she signed the contract, the contractor removed only four feet around the perimeter for $2,000. “I basically told this man he should be embarrassed to call himself a Buffalonian,” Matthews said.
After the contractor left, Matthews and his friend had to remove the snow that was left on his roof. “We probably took about two tons of snow off.”
News 4 contacted the contractor to see why the price was so high. The contractor hung up after we asked and didn’t return any follow up calls.
State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is investigating whether companies are gouging prices while many families are just getting their bearings after this week’s massive snow storm.
When you’re hiring a contractor, consumer protection advocates recommend that you get references and at least three estimates.
