ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – For a matchup that has no shortage of storylines this weekend, here comes another, with the Donte Whitner twitter rants from this past summer still simmering below the surface.
Bills running back Fred Jackson responded today, saying he “can’t respect” Whitner, and adding “it’s just some dude being an idiot.”
Over the summer, Whitner took aim at rookie receiver Sammy Watkins for talking about the Browns trading him away (Cleveland traded the fourth pick in the draft to Buffalo, allowing the Bills to draft Watkins). He went on to call the franchise the “Toronto Bills,” and got into a nasty war of words with former Bills linebacker Darryl Talley on twitter.
Today, Jackson and several other Bills had some words of their own for Whitner.
“That’s just him doing what he does, at the same time it’s annoying and it’s just dumb for him to do, to talk about people like that and to talk about the city of Buffalo like that,” said Jackson. “Sometimes you’ve just got to take it with a grain of salt and say it’s just some dude being an idiot about some stuff.”
“You can’t respect anybody that will say stuff about whatever it may be, whether it’s a race of people, or people’s beliefs or anything like that. If you talk down to anybody you can’t be respected. That’s just me, that’s just how I feel about it. For him to say stuff about that about people that we love in this organization, he’ll never get my respect for that,” said Jackson.
“For somebody to bash a city just because of what your performance was while you were here, I don’t understand why you would do that,” said safety Aaron Williams.
Whitner said today, it looks like he’s in the Bills’ heads. Sunday’s game is sold out at The Ralph, between the Bills and Browns.
