Residents near Ellicott Creek cope with flooding

BOWMANSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) —  Ellicott Creek is currently flooding. But it’s cresting at nine feet high. That’s just below a level which could be more damaging to the area.

Residents in the area say it’s just something they deal with. Homes in the area have been flooding for generations. Many were built over 100 years ago.

Bowmansville Fire Department volunteers are on the scene where Ellicott Creek is rushing like Niagara Falls. They’re checking up on electric issues, making sure residents have appliances unplugged.

One resident said even though his kids weren’t around in the day due to school, they usually take advantage of the flood waters and navigate them with a canoe.

Thankfully for the area, the temperatures will drop soon, and the snow melt will slow. That should drop the flood waters.
