Metro Rail to close some stations for construction

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Between Friday and Sunday, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority will be closing above ground sections of the Metro Rail system.

At 9 p.m. Friday, the entire above ground section from Lafayette station to Erie Canal Harbor station will be closed so crews can replace the overhead catenary contact wires in a safe manner.

Metro Rail will continue to transport customers in both directions between University and Lafayette stations, but Metro will route circulator bus service from Lafayette station to Scott Street. Shuttles will operate in each direction in rough 15 minute intervals.

Signs will be placed for customers along Pearl Street and Washington Street, and inbound busses will travel between Lafayette Station and Scott Street via Pearl Street.

The rail service will reopen beginning Monday.NFTA provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
