Mayor Brown names new Human Resources Commissioner

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Mayor Byron Brown announced the appointment of a new Human Resources Commissioner Monday.

He appointed Gladys Herndon-Hill from the similar position of Acting Commissioner of Human Resources for the City of Buffalo, which she was serving just before the promotion.

Brown said her service in that post made her a natural choice to step into the official role.

“During her years of service to the City, and including her time as Acting Commissioner of Human Resources, Mrs. Herndon-Hill has demonstrated that she possesses the exceptional qualities, experience, skill set, focus, and vision needed to serve as the City’s next Commissioner of Human Resources,” Brown said.

Brown said he hopes Herndon-Hill will help make the delivery of city services more effective by maintaining professional staff through programs and practices.

She is now responsible for all personnel matters, including recruitment of candidates to fill appointed positions, the supervision of all training and evaluation for employees, and the enforcement of all residency requirements of state and local civil service law. Her new position pays $91,374 per year.
