Police step up patrols during holiday shopping

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Thieves are shopping for five finger discounts, while you’re shopping for deals. It’s important to take a few easy steps to make sure your holiday spirit doesn’t get spoiled.

Many people will leave bags in plain view inside their car. Erie County Sheriff Sergeant Rick Lauricella believes every mall around this time of the year has more eyes everywhere.

Lauricella said, “We will have upgraded patrol in the mall areas. I’m sure Hamburg, Cheektowaga will do the same.”

The mall security at the Walden Galleria didn’t want to talk to us about our story.
