Man accused of trying to scrap stolen steel

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Lockport man was arrested last week, after trying to scrap sheets of stainless steel metal he allegedly stole from another business.

Police were called to Lockport Custom Laser Inc. on December 5th, because $4,500 worth of stainless steel sheets were taken from the business. As police interviewed the business owner, another business contacted them.

Police said Metalico Scrap Metal, in Niagara Falls, reported three people were getting ready to scrap stainless steel sheets. Troopers went to the scrap yard and took the males into custody.

Police said 24-year-old Stephen Zimmerman, of Lockport, stole the sheets and offered to pay the other two males to help him unload it. He was arraigned in the Town of Lockport and remanded to Niagara County Jail on $2,500 bail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
