Truck carrying 43,000 pounds of salt overturns

SHELDON, N.Y. (WIVB) – A tractor trailer driver said he fell asleep while driving on State Route 20A, Monday afternoon. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office said Matthew Rohrer, of Iowa, was driving a truck filled with 43,256 pounds of salt.

The driver was near Buffalo Hill Village when his vehicle struck a berm on the northside of the highway, causing the trailer to overturn. Several first responders were called to the scene.

Rohrer was transported to Erie County Medical Center for observation. He is cited for unreasonable speed for special hazards, failure to keep right and unsafe lane change. He will answer charges in January.
