Thruway authority passes budget, skirts toll hike

ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) — The New York State Thruway Authority Friday passed its budget, but has a shortfall of 36-million.

That shortfall is raising questions about how money will be made up. Acting Thruway Director Donna Luh said they’re not looking at hiking tolls quite yet.

They passed a 1.7 billion dollar budget for 2015, and that has caused some officials to expect up to a five percent increase in tolls in 2015.

“Watching our expenses, reducing operating and capital expenses, cost cutting…we’ve done a lot of that…and we’re going to continue in that direction,” Luh said.

Luh said she’ll do what she can to avoid expected toll hikes. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
