Dunkirk man arrested for narcotics at government building

DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man from Dunkirk was arrested Friday just outside of a government building.

Jahmaul W. Johnson, 41, was charged with third degree and fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, each of which are felony charges.

Police say they responded to Chautauqua County’s Office Building in Dunkirk Friday afternoon. They said they received a report of a suspicious person, and when they arrived, they saw Johnson hide something near the doorway of the building before going inside.

Upon further inspection, officers say they found a “significant” quantity of cocaine packaged for street sale in a drain hole near the doorway. They said the cocaine has a street value of $1,000.

Police decided to wait before arresting Johnson, and when he exited the building, he checked to make sure nobody was watching before going to the location of the drugs and picking them up again. That’s when police arrested him with drugs in hand.

Johnson was held without bail and is awaiting arraignment in Dunkirk City Court.
