Man falls nearly 150 feet into gorge

NIAGARA FALLS, ON (WIVB) – Someone fell into a gorge Thursday in Niagara Falls, Canada.  Medics flew a man by helicopter to the hospital after he fell nearly 150 feet.

There is an elevator that leads to the bottom of the gorge, but rescue crews couldn’t use it because it was broken.

Niagara Falls Fire Department Platoon Chief Lou Lisi said, “It was a little bit slippery there. Some nighttime snowfall has fallen, made it precarious to get victim into basket. That was the only way we could get him out because the elevator was broken.”

Police said investigators are looking into how the incident occurred. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
