BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Jury selection will begin Monday in the trial of a man who is charged with several crimes for his alleged shoving of a national guardsmen down a flight of stairs.
Jeffrey Basil, 35, was a bar manager who stands charged with murder, manslaughter and tampering with evidence for his involvement in an altercation.
He’s accused of shoving 28-year-old national guardsmen William Sager down a flight of stairs at Molly’s Pub. Immediately following the attack, Sager was in the intensive care unit for months, but lost his battle with his injuries.
Basil’s attorney previously admitted he pushed Sager down the flight of stairs, but said he never intended to kill Sager.
Most recently, a judge ordered a police officer who was off duty at Molly’s Pub to take the stand.
His trial is set to get underway Jan. 5.
