Last day open for Buffalo Tyson plant

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Tyson Foods plant worked its last day on Friday.

The plant on Perry Street is closing along with similar plants in Iowa and New Mexico to improve the performance of the company’s business.

The factory on Perry St. has produced packaged foods since 1969, when it was opened under the Russer Foods name. It eventually was turned into a Tyson plant, and has operated that way for 15 years.

Over 250 local people will be out of work, although the company did offer its employees the ability to transfer to a different Tyson location. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
