BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Metro Rail station serving Buffalo’s busy medical corridor will soon be closed for about a month due to construction.
The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority confirmed reports that the station, one of the busiest in the system, will close beginning Feb. 16. Construction needs for the new $375 million UB Medical School prompted the plan to close the station for a substantial period of time. Safety issues figured into the decision.
Shuttle buses sponsored by UB will take Metro Rail passengers from the Summer-Best Station to the Medical Campus.
Currently 2,700 passengers use the station daily. That number is expected to balloon once the medical campus is complete.
