CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — The New York State Police say a man who left the scene of an accident is in trouble, charged with a costly offense.
They say Richard J. Vorwerk left the scene of an accident in Cheektowaga Friday night. They pulled up to a car on the side of the road, and the driver said he was struck by a car.
Troopers went searching for a car which left the scene of the accident, and they found a vehicle which matched the description. They said 24-year-old Vorwerk was the driver.
While interviewing the Lancaster native, they said they smelled alcohol on his breath. They gave him a field sobriety test, and said he failed it.
Vorwerk was arrested for driving while intoxicated and at the station, he refused a breathalyzer. He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident and moved for lane unsafely.
He’ll return to Town of Cheektowaga Court on Jan. 16.
