Two Canadian Mounties shot, suspect found

ST. ALBERT, Alberta (AP) — The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say the man suspected of shooting two Mounties early today in Alberta has been located and is no longer a danger to the public. They didn’t indicate whether the suspect is in custody.

Police say one of the officers is in “very grave condition” and the other is in serious but stable condition at a hospital in St. Albert.

RCMP Assistant Commissioner Marlin Degrand says a routine investigation into a suspicious vehicle led the two officers to the Apex Casino in an industrial area. The officers determined the vehicle had been stolen, and went inside the casino to look for suspects.

Degrand says the officers quickly came under fire and were hit before they had a chance to fire back.

Police tracked the suspect to a wooded area not far from the casino. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
