BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Red Bull shared their project with western New Yorkers after keeping it a secret from the public.

As part of an upcoming promotion, Red Bull filmed world renowned Canadian ice climber Will Gadd climb up a frozen section of the Niagara Falls .

Wednesday News 4 showed footage from a photographer who was on the scene when the stunt was in progress, but Thursday Red Bull shared their footage and a bit of an explanation as to why they filmed it.

They said despite staying quiet about the project, they did work with the Niagara Falls State Park, saying the park thinks it is a great opportunity to bring recognition to the park and the historic land around it.

But Will Gadd said his motivation was conquest driven.

“This is the coolest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” he said.

Gadd, who has climbed across the earth, said it probably would stay high up on the list, too.

“There was a moment there where I was halfway up Niagara Falls,” Gadd said. “Like I’m halfway up Niagara Falls, and I get to hang out and look at it. Nobody’s ever seen it from that perspective.”

But now viewers can live vicariously through Gadd by watching his daring assent through a variety of camera angles, including a GoPro. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
