Red Cross assisting three individuals after Locust Street fire

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) Firefighters were called out early Saturday morning to battle flames at a house on Locust Street.

Flames could be seen from the Kensington Expressway as crews tried to contain the fire just after 6 a.m.

Crews at the scene told News 4 the fire started in the second floor, inside the kitchen.

The people inside apparently tried to put the flames out themselves before calling for help. Firefighters said that probably cost them valuable time in getting to the scene and battling the fire.

Everyone inside the home at the time of the fire made it out safely and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Crews had begun to contain the flames just after 7:45 a.m. The structure itself suffered $100,000 worth of damage and the contents damaged inside total $45,000. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
