BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — When a tattoo shop in Arizona got a phone call from a man inquiring about coloring a tattoo, they thought nothing of it, that is until he walked in the next day.
This past Friday Rex Ryan walked into Old Town Ink in Old Town Scottsdale, and that’s when some of the tattoo artists there made the connection.
Ben Verhoek, the tattoo artist who worked on Ryan’s tattoo, said he’s not a big football fan, so it wasn’t until he read his name in the book that he made the connection.
Ryan has a tattoo on his arm of what Verhoek described as a pinup model, which he later learned was Ryan’s wife. Previously, Ryan’s wife was wearing only a Jets jersey with the number six on it — Mark Sanchez’s old number.
When he walked into the tattoo shop, Ryan was looking to make the Jets jersey Buffalo Bills blue, solidifying his transition to Buffalo Bills Head Coach. Verhoek said the process of recoloring the tattoo was easy, and the job was quick — and it only set Ryan back about $80.
“He’s really nice, really humble, a really cool guy,” Verhoek said. “He seemed like one of the guys hanging out at this shop, whether he was a celebrity or not.”
Verhoek said Rex called the tattoo perfect before he left the shop.
