ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) – Sheldon Silver’s resignation will become official Monday, as he steps down as the speaker of the New York State Assembly. His resignation takes effect at 11:59 p.m. Monday.
Silver is resigning after federal charges that he took nearly $4 million in kickbacks.
Majority Leader Joseph Morelle, of Rochester, is serving as active speaker until the assembly picks a new leader. He is not looking to fill the position permanently.
