ConAgra plant begins shutdown in Dunkirk

DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) — Nearly 400 people are going to be out of work by May in Dunkirk.

ConAgra announced soon after buying the Carriage House plants in Dunkirk in 2012 that they would shut the plants down.

Senator Chuck Schumer, along with other local lawmakers said they were furious about the closure, which puts 406 people out of work. The plant was one of the largest employers in western New York.

The plant owners described the reasons for the closure as economic. The plant is slated to be closed down by May 24. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
