NIAGARA, Ont. (WIVB) — Although it’s across the U.S. northern border, a case of the measles in Niagara, Ontario has become the closest confirmed case of the disease to western New York.
The Niagara Region’s public health page notified Canadians to the issue. They said that on Feb. 1 through Feb. 2 an adult female was exposed in public while having the measles.
Their health department was urging anybody who may have been affected to contact local doctors before returning to the public.
A train which was carrying a person infected by measles recently passed through the Niagara Falls area.
Measles, a highly contagious respiratory disease has already been contracted twice in New York City in 2015, but hasn’t yet been contracted in Erie County.
