BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl defensive lineman is going to head to trial to fight reckless endangerment charges against him.
Marcell Dareus was offered a plea deal for reckless driving, but he turned it down. He was charged after he crashed his car into a tree in Hamburg in May of 2014.
Dareus’ attorney has opted for a non-jury trial, where he will face the most serious of the charges brought against him. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to a year in jail.
Police say they charged him because he crossed two lanes of traffic on Mile Strip Road in Hamburg before crashing his car after jumping the curb and skidding across a parking lot and into a tree.
Dareus will return to court on May 19.
