Football merger in store for Letchworth and Warsaw

GAINESVILLE, N.Y. — Letchworth and Warsaw high school football teams will merge on the gridiron this Fall..

The schools have seen declining enrollment and decrease in student participation.

The Batavia Daily News reports that Letchworth Central School’s Board of Education on Monday gave thumbs up to a one-year merger of the district football team with Warsaw. This follows a vote last week by Warsaw approving the plan.

Under the new plan Letchworth will host the games and practices will be divided between the two campuses.

There are reportedly 42 high school football programs across the state who have undergone similar mergers.
