Neighborhood group moves to save former supermarket

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The owner of a former Buffalo supermarket is looking to turn it into a self-storage facility, but that’s not sitting too well with locals who used to frequent the store.

A group of neighbors met Tuesday at the Gloria J. Parks community center to discuss the former grocery store. The Kenmore Avenue building used to house a Budwey’s and Dash’s grocery store.

Neighbors aren’t looking to see the vacant store to turn into a storage facility, so they’re asking Joe Dash to put that idea on hold.

“We don’t want it to be a shouting match, we want it to be focused on solutions,” Darren Cotton, said. “So, what as a community can we suggest to Joe Dash, what do we want to see in the community, and we’re going to be presenting those ideas to him, and we’ll have him respond.”

Although Dash didn’t attend Tuesday’s meeting he said he plans to go over the recommendations and ideas at a later date. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
