MAYVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — It couldn’t be better weather to build an ice castle and that is exactly what they are doing in Mayville.
The ice castle is a yearly tradition, constructed out of ice cut from Lake Chautauqua and formed into a castle for a festival, which this year will be this weekend.
Ken Kearner with the Chautauqua Chamber of Commerce said the event brings in tens of thousands of people.
Festivities begin Friday with shopping, food vendors and a polar plunge in the lake.
The festival raises money that is funneled to a variety of charities.
The event starts on Saturday at 11 a.m. and runs until 8 p.m. ending with fireworks.. On Sunday, families can come out to Mayville from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
