BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man who was found guilty of trafficking heroin and possessing a firearm is in for a long time behind bars.
U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara sentenced George Torres, 53, to 14 years behind bars and ordered to forfeit $368,270 in drug sale proceeds. Three guns were also confiscated.
Torres could have faced up to life behind bars and a $5 million fine after being convicted of unlawfully possessing with intent to distribute more than 200 grams of heroin and possessing a firearm in the furtherance of drug trafficking. In 2012 a search warrant turned up three handguns, 200 grams of heroin and over $300,000 in cash.
Torres’ minimum time he could have served behind bars for his conviction was 10 years.
