Girgensons, Ennis hurt as Sabres top Columbus 4-2

COLUMBUS, Oh. (WIVB ) – The Buffalo Sabres capitalized on some early miscues from Columbus goalie Anton Forsberg to pick up a 4-2 win Tuesday night.

The victory could prove costly, though. Buffalo’s two leading scorers, Zemgus Girgensons and Tyler Ennis, both left the game with injuries. Girgensons blocked a shot in the second period, then immediately went to the ice. He had to be helped to the locker room, unable to put any weight on his right skate.

Michal Neuvirth made 45 saves to continue his stellar play. Over the last six games, Neuvirth’s save percentage is .952.

Cody Hodgson opened the scoring in the first period, followed by a Girgensons short-handed strike to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead.

After Matt Calvert cut the lead in half for Columbus, the Sabres quickly added two more goals. Mark Pysyk scored off a deflection, then Chris Stewart fired a power play strike home for a three goal lead.

The Sabres return home to take on Vancouver on Thursday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
