Events create busy, profitable weekend in WNY

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The first weekend of March is shaping up to be a big and profitable one for the Queen City. Music lovers, athletes and fans will pack downtown.


  • Garth Brooks is headlining six shows between Thursday night and Sunday. The concerts are happening at First Niagara Center, with two shows Friday night and Saturday night.

DETAILS | What to know before heading to Garth Brooks concerts

  • The Buffalo Home Show is happening at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center from March 6th to March 8th, and again next weekend from March 13th to March 15th.
  • Over at Erie Community College South Campus on Oak Street, the NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
  • Hundreds of dancers will gather at the Adam’s Mark Hotel for the Nuvo Dance Competition and Convention. This draws both local and out of town dance studios.
  • About 43 teams from across New York State will hit the Holiday Twin Rinks for the Pepsi Hockey Invitational.

All of these events will contribute to the potential major traffic congestion. The city is preparing for it by extending NFTA Rail Service for 30 minutes after the Thursday and Sunday Garth Brooks concerts. The will extend it for 90 minutes after Friday and Saturday’s shows.
