Girl Scout Troop takes pledge to “ban bossy”

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A national campaign called “Ban Bossy” is helping girls gain the confidence needed to take on leadership roles.

Girls in a local Girl Scout Troop are among thousands of women and girls who have taken the stand to “ban bossy,” to increase girls’ confidence when taking leadership roles.

Girl Scout Troop 025 Co-Leader Becky Kazmierski said, “They wanted to make sure when girls take on leadership roles, they’re actually seeing it as a leader and being confident and in control of what they’re doing.”

Girls’ self esteem drops 3.5 more times than boys’ self esteem between elementary school and high school. Girls are twice as more likely than boys to worry that leadership roles will make them seem “bossy.”

First Lady Michelle Obama and pop icon Beyonce have taken the pledge. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
