LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Niagara County Legislature is meeting Tuesday evening to consider a resolution allowing the growing of medical marijuana in a local greenhouse.

A 12-acre greenhouse on Pletcher Road in the Town of Lewiston owned by Herbal Agriculture, LLC wishes to grow marijuana to supply it to patients who are allowed to use it under NYS’s Compassionate Care Act.

The company the operates the H2gro greenhouse holds an exclusive New York license for “Charlotte’s Web”, a variety of the marijuana plant with an extremely low THC, incapable of producing a “high”.

The resolution has bi-partisan support in Lewiston from the Supervisor and members of the Town Council.

Counties in NYS where medical marijuana is produced receive 22.5% of the state’s 7% tax charged for medical marijuana.
