WESTFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) — A passerby who called in a driver slumped over the wheel of a car Monday ignited an investigation which led to the arrest of a Westfield man.
Police say they responded to the car, which was still in the driving lane of Spoden Road near Route 60 in the Town of Pomfret. They say they woke up Jeffrey Barr, 60, the driver, and started investigating him.
They say they ruled out a medical emergency, and they smelled a strong alcohol smell during the investigation. They placed Barr under arrest and say he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.
New York State Troopers charged Barr with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test and being parked on a highway. Police say he was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond.
