BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — After a series of inspections on railroad tracks and rail cars across New York State were completed, various defects were uncovered.
Governor Andrew Cuomo called for state-wide inspections after a string of dangerous railroad accidents across the nation. Reports say in Buffalo, inspectors found a critical defect and 17 non-critical defects at the CSX Frontier Yard.
Inspectors also hit several CSX locations from Ripley to Dunkirk. They say they found five non-critical defects.
The problems spanned from chipped equipment, thin break shoes, insufficient fasteners and loose bolts, along with a loose safety railing.
Cuomo promised New York State will continue to enforce safety standards to prevent accidents in the state.
