Bulls ready to charge into NCAA Tournament

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The University at Buffalo Bulls have their horns up, and they are ready to charge right into the NCAA Tournament. National broadcasters and local leaders and joining the conversation about the Bulls’ first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

March Madness is already underway, and there have been a number of upsets. UB fans hope the Bulls will be the next team to bring an upset to the tournament, as a 12 seed beating a 5 seed.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown has labeled Friday, “UB Men’s Basketball Day.”

Doug Gottlieb, a college basketball analyst, spoke to News 4 about the match up. He said both teams have well-known coaches, UB Head Coach Bobby Hurley and WVU Head Coach Bob Huggins. Gottlieb said both teams mirror their coaches’ personalities.

“Bobby was great at starting point guard as a feshman, has a starting freshman point guard. Then you got Bob Huggins who is a perfect mirror image of how his teams always play. They get after you defensively, they play exceptionally hard,” he explained.

The team is getting national attention as well.  ESPN’s SportCenter had the Bulls as their featured team.

ESPN cameras followed Head Coach Bobby Hurley and his players during practice all this week.

“We’re in, but we have to think that we’re out.  The mindset, the mentality has to be that we’re out.  Hurley said. “Hey this is key, this is key for Friday fellas.”

Hurley stressed the importance of his team playing with a chip on their shoulder, but also wants them to enjoy the moment.
